About the centre

The Human-Environmental Systems Research Center is an independent organizational unit in the Faculty of Geography and Geology at Jagiellonian University. The Center was established on November 1, 2022, in accordance with the executive plan of the project “Building Excellence in research of human-environmental systems with geospatial and Earth Observation Technologiesestablishing and developing cooperation with public administration units and enterprises in the field of expert activities,” (HES-GEO), which refers to the establishment of a centre of excellence in human-environmental systems research.

The Center’s task is to conduct comprehensive research, development and educational activities on spatial relations in human-environmental systems carried out by:

  • Initiating and coordinating interdisciplinary scientific research,
  • conducting work on the dissemination of knowledge and skills in the field of geographic information theory and technology in scientific research and in the management of socio-economic space,
  • establishing and developing cooperation with public administration units and enterprises in the field of expert activities,
  • training activities,
  • creating and proposing changes in educational programs.
